At Carmel New Church School in Kitchener, we believe in providing our students with a structured environment with plenty of activities and potential for growth. Here’s what you and your children can expect on a typical school day.
The School Day
Outdoor supervision of students by teachers is available starting at 8:00 a.m. Students line up on the sidewalk in front of the school doors. Any students arriving earlier must be accompanied by a parent or other caregiver.
8:10 Doors Open
Students greet the principal or other staff member with a handshake and proceed to the cloakrooms.
Any student arriving to his/her classroom after 8:20 a.m. is late.
8:20 Chapel or Classroom Worship
All students have Chapel together every Monday and Friday as well as each day of the week before Christmas, Easter and New Church Day (June 19). Full uniform is required for Chapel.
All students take part in outdoor recess except in cases of rain or extreme cold (-18 C).
10:25 Recess Ends
Students re-enter the school. They have five minutes to use the drinking fountain and washrooms.
10:30 Classes Resume
12:00 Lunch Dismissal
Children who go home for lunch are dismissed as are morning only Kindergarten students. Children in the teacher-supervised lunch program eat in the gym until approximately 12:25 p.m., then proceed outside for recess until 12:55 p.m.
Students who go home for lunch should not return to the school before 12:50 p.m. as there is no supervision before then. As in the morning, students line up on the sidewalk in front of the school doors, greet a teacher at the school door and proceed to the cloakrooms.
Any student arriving to his/her classroom after 1:00 p.m. is late.
Students are dismissed, gather their belongings and leave the building. All students should normally exit the school by 3:15 p.m. Some students may undertake after-school duties according to classroom routines which may require extra time. A student completing overdue assignments or serving a FACE & FIX-IT may be required to stay until 4:00 p.m. No student may re-enter the building without permission from school personnel. Parents who would like to speak to a teacher at this time need to check in with the secretary who will contact the teacher.
