All students at Carmel New Church School in Kitchener are required to wear the full school uniform every day unless otherwise advised by school administrators or teachers. Please label all uniform items, including shoes, with the child’s name (not just initials).

Parents are responsible for ensuring that their children wear the required uniform and that all items are a modest fit, clean and in good repair. In the case of non-compliance, parents will be notified with the expectation that, unless the school is otherwise informed, the student will be in adherence with uniform guidelines the following day.

Students may not wear make-up. They may wear a limited amount of jewelry. Please avoid anything that is offensive or has a high monetary or sentimental value. Teachers will ask students to remove any jewellery that is distracting or that could potentially be a safety concern (such as during P.E., recess or science labs).

On days when students are not required to wear their school uniform, we expect that all clothing worn to school will be clean, in good repair, modest in appearance and bear no disrespectful, sexually or violently suggestive wording, slogans or pictures. Undergarments should not be visible in any way. Bare shoulders and bare midriffs are not acceptable. No hats of any kind, unless specifically requested, are allowed. Any student who does not adhere to these guidelines will be required to change their clothes (either at school or home).

All children are expected to go outside for recess except in the case of extreme winter weather conditions (below -18 C). Parents, please ensure that your child is appropriately dressed. We recommend hat, scarf, gloves/mittens, warm coat and lined winter boots.

All students must wear winter boots or outdoor footwear (not indoor school or gym shoes) when walking to and from school and during outside recess.

Students will wear dry shoes, socks, (not boots or outdoor footwear), inside the school.

Grade JK-3 must bring snowsuit pants to wear during recess.

Grade 4-8 students wishing to play in the snow must wear either waterproof snow pants over their uniform or a change of pants (but not their P. E. uniform).

On a number of occasions throughout the year (swimming for Physical Education, end-of-year trip, class pool parties) students will need a bathing suit. As with other clothing, we ask you to dress your child conservatively, especially considering that these activities usually involve a lot of movement and play which can cause problems in an ill-fitting or skimpy suit. Parents may desire that their children wear a T-shirt over their bathing suit in some situations.

For the Graduation Ceremony, Grade Eight students may dress up, rather than wear their school uniform. For the boys, we recommend dress pants, shirt and a tie. For the girls, we suggest a modest dress or skirt and blouse. Please be conservative in your choices (i.e. avoid bare shoulders, wear a knee length dress/skirt) and remember the students do need to be able to walk and climb stairs in their dress clothes.
